Endoscopic inspection:
As the vibration measurement in the software package of the gearcase showed deviations, the client engaged INSPECTRON camera inspections BV to perform a check on one of the bearings. During the inspection, it soon became apparent that the culprit was a crack in the inner ring of one of the bearings on the drive shaft.
Because production has the highest priority and replacement of a bearing is extremely time-consuming, it was decided to keep a close eye on the progression of this crack. For a period of 5 days, we proceeded with interim monitoring of the bearing. In this manner stock could be produced without unexpected failure leading to unnecessary costs and production downtime.
The bearing has come through this period without further problems, and the client was able to prepare with confidence for the replacement of the bearing.
